Re-installing windows question

    my roomate has a compaq computer with XP. it needs formatting desperatly. I have a dell. Can i use my dell re-installation disk on his PC. He does not have any software with this computer anymore the klutz.

    Hi Clint!

    You will get the short answer on that one ... NO ... you can not use an OEM CD from Dell to install on any other computer than that specific model.

    Find out the exact model designation, it should be on a label somewhere on the case. Get on the internet and search the HP/Compaq site for information. I haven't heard of a Compaq with a restore partition but that doesn't rule it out. It may be possible to get restore CD's.
