The problem is - None of the screen savers will come on
by themselves. Preview will work. I have the settings set to come on in one
minute, but no luck.
I've been through the registry and checked the values and they all appear right. I've also run sfc /scannow and no problems have appeared with any of the files.
Any ideas on what may be causing this? Thanks for any help

Didn't find the information you thought to find? Check out these Similar Threads
Post Script: I found the problem by going start/run/Msconfig and looking through the startup tab and unticking any program .exe that I thought should not be running unless the program was in use and then going back to the general tab and clicking selective start up and rebooting to see if that .exe was the problem. PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! maybe this can help anyone else having the same problem.
Cyberlink Power DVD - It had been installed on my pc for months with no problems until now but I suspect it gained access to the internet for whatever reasons and caused the process to constantly keep running and consequently the screen saver process which was listening for activity thought that this was activity and did not run itself.
For deciding if a program should startup or can be on demand, this thread references data bases to lookup startups/processes System suffering from lagging performance
Autoruns is a far more comprehensive way to see all the startups on your system:
Quote:
This utility, which has the most comprehensive knowledge of auto-starting locations of any startup monitor, shows you what programs are configured to run during system bootup or login, and shows you the entries in the order Windows processes them. These programs include ones in your startup folder, Run, RunOnce, and other Registry keys. You can configure Autoruns to show other locations, including Explorer shell extensions, toolbars, browser helper objects, Winlogon notifications, auto-start services, and much more. Autoruns goes way beyond the MSConfig utility bundled with Windows Me and XP
