I am getting stuck (in my friend's desktop--dimension 4400) at his name on the welcome blue screen. The only I could get past it to the desktop I found was using ctr+alt+dlt. I am not sure why this is happening; but could someone help me out of it?

    Thanks,
    Moorty

When you used Control/Alt/Delete did it take you to the old fashioned log in box? Is it XP Home or Pro?

    Thanks for your response.

No, not log on screen, but the close program window and the desktop, of course. And, it's windows XP home.

Suggest you look at a recent post in this forum called Bypass "to begin click username "....Same problem.

    Thanks for the response.

I can, using user accounts from the control panel, get rid of the welcome screen. But that's not the problem. There are other users set up on the computer. The problem is how to get past the welcome screen to the desktop. The regedit will require putting up a username and password for each user, and I am not sure my friend will understand (he is totally new to computers) how to edit the registry or setup (using registry) passwords for each user and so on.

My friend does seem to want the screen with the ability for each user to log on. I am wondering if there is a better and simpler solution to the problem.

Moorty, I moved the post above to this thread. It was posted in the thread that Topdog mentioned and I think it would be better to have it here so those that are helping you here see it.

That said, are you saying that when you get to the welcome screen there's no users to click on or are they there but clicking on them does nothing?

    Thanks, Zander.

His wife and son are also (and Guest) are also on the log on screen. His wife's logging is set up with a password, but when I was there (I am now away in another town) I did not try logging into his wife's page.

But anyway, I asked someone else last night and the gentleman said I could probably fix the problem by using the windows XP setup and try to repair Windows. I just wrote that to my friend and I will wait to see the result.
