How to: Update programs on Limited Access Accounts
Okay gguys and ggals (any ggals?)...any way. For some reason, a lot of the programs on our system, when upgrading, only upgrade under my account (with admin rights). I will upgrade them, but when my wife logs in on her limited access user log in she will received notifications that certain programs have updates, but that you need admin rights in order to install them.
So I usually end up logging her out, logging in under my account, change her account to have admin rights, then log back into her account and update the programs.
I know that there has to be a way that I can update her programs without having to log into, or change access on, her account.
How do I make changes to that shared programs on our system that will carry those changes across the board on every account on the system. (This problem is including programs like our McAfee Software, Internet Explorer and more). I know that I should be able to set options, controls and complete updates from my account that will affect all accounts on the system so that I only have to do it once without having to change accesses and continuing logging in and out, back and forth, but HOW!!

Most of the programs can be upgraded from Administrator login & they get updated for all the users. But some programs seem to create user specific installations & need to be updated/installed from all user logins. That could be your problem - but they are few & far between. If you say that most of the programs are giving you same problem, may be your wife's profile is corrupt. Just create a new limited user, login & see what happens.

Okay so what if I wanted to change some settings (options) on the internet explorer browser on my wifes login from my account? because I had originally made a change under my login, for turning pop-ups off for instance, that didn't seem to take effect under her login. When she tried to change it it told her that she needed admin rights.

You can change most of the options in IE in user login only - in fact most of these settings are per user settings ie. each user change these as per his/her requirements. Check if you have applied any policy to prevent changes or messed around some settings in policy editor. You can also create a new user account & test there to confirm if the user profile is ok or not.
