i recently had many viruses dealing with my explorer so i ran adware remover after deleting as indicated i restarted my computer and found out that the ntldr file was missing and i had to restart. since then ive put that file to a disk and loaded computer. its goes to the screen when you hit F8. tried booting windows normally after selecting, the load bar at bottom of screen loads then goes to a blank black screen. go try safe mode boot. the screen stops after loading a couple dozen system files and freezes. again i try to boot with any other safe modes, command or networking same blank black screen is presented. also tried last known good configuration, nothing. i have done numerous checks from anther computer, but not sure what to look for or what to fix. i have deleted all the viruses that i could and there were many. is there a way to use system restore or a earlier copy of registry without harming the current computer only the hard drive?

    ministone22 - Welcome to the Board :)

There is no way of knowing exactly what your adware remover (is that it's name or something else?) has removed. As you are unable to boot into Safe Mode it is not possible to run System Restore ....

first off thanks, glad to be here. let me get right in i dont have a command prompt the comp that i have has swithced hands so many times it has to boot through the cd drive which has files to install properly. there is 3 install methods that i have seen searching through the bios. first it goes to HD0 then to cd rom then to SCSI. i have not tried starting the computer yet since ive removed all the viruses.( are there types of viruses that let comp load but leave a blank screen as described?) in the past ive made a backup of the registry but since no command prompt area i doubt that i can use it. an xp boot disk will most likely be the best sollution. yet again ill have to try these at a later date. i dont have a xp reinstall disk for my computer but i do for other models of the same manufacturer, but that most likely wont help either.

just to be sure i cant restore or edit anything from another computer. with the broken computers hard drive in slave mode?

I am leaving home for a few weeks now and will check in this evening. In the meantime if there are any files on the drive that you require you should be able to access the drive by installing it as slave in another computer. Remember to set the drive jumper to slave.

The lack of an XP installation disk is a major obstacle to getting the computer running again - do you have a legal product key for that failed installation? Look for a sticker on the case.
 Are you interpreting a message during POST re. Boot from CD to suggest that the computer is booting from the CD-ROM drive? It will only do this if there is a bootable CD in the drive and that message will be followed by 'Press any key to boot from CD' if that is the case. I suspect that the boot order is set in BIOS to CD-ROM > HDD > Floppy - this is the preferred order.

cd-rom to hdd to floppy sounds more like what it might of been. again im not near the computer so i wouldnt be able to verify it for you. what im gathering there have been problems in the past with the computer which lead someone to have to add these steps for it to run properly.
