InstallShield Wizard error 1606

I often try new programs which I download from ZD net from download.com and other sources which I trust. When I try to install these programs lately, I get an error message which reads as follows;

InstallShield Wizard error 1606; could not access network location
%USERPROFILE%\SendTo\.

Can someone explain to me why this is happening, and when I can do to prevent it, so I can try these programs?

Thanks in advance,

glyndwr

Click on start -> run then key in sfc /scannow and OK. You will need your XP CD and will probably have to click Retry a bunch of times (you'll be prompted).

If the problem persists after that, start -> run -> cmd and when the cmd window opens, chkdsk /f, answer Yes to doing the deed at next reboot then reboot.

If it is still happening, check your event logs (start -> run -> eventvwr.msc and look for errors & warnings that seem related. If you find one or more, open an event, click on the icon below the up/down arrows, and paste the resulting text from your clipboard to a reply here. If there are quite a few then one each of the most likely looking suspects will do at first.

After completing the first two steps in your reply to my message, the problem persists. I am still unable to install programs using the InstallShield wizard. Per your suggestion, I am pasting some of the errors and warnings from the event logs, for your inspection.

That information helps. Thanks for posting it.

Since the issues you listed all seem to be with a package that does seem to be a little tricky to install at times, I'd suggest posting the problem to their targeted public support forum at

Hi, Newt:

Dragon NaturallySpeaking is not the program I'm trying to install. I know that information appears in the event log, but the programs I'm trying to install are not related to Dragon NaturallySpeaking. I suspected that some cross linked files were the culprits, but check disk /F. should have cleaned that up.

One of the programs I have tried to install most recently is an upgrade I just purchased online for my Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2005 program. I have tried repeatedly to install this, without success. There are also several other programs that are not related to Dragon NaturallySpeaking that I have not been able to install. The failed attempt all display the error 1606 message.

It looks like this one is going to be a tough one to resolve. Thanks very much for your reply. I hope this information helps.

Kindest regards,

glyndwr
