    Hello naughtyboy,

    Have you tried chkdsk?

Start > run > type cmd > ok. At the cursor type chkdsk /r > enter key.
The /r switch Locates bad sectors and recovers readable information.

In the Help and Support applet on the start menu - type chkdsk into the search box and it will give you the parameter options for chkdsk and what they do.

    Regards - Charles

For a quick summary, type chkdsk /? in the cmd window and use the mouse on the scroll bar at the right side.

Yes, but with a different default swtch setting.

    should i change my HDD?
Does sound like the HDD is dying.

Download and install Everest Home edition http://www.lavalys.com/products.php?lang=en for system info in general and drive manufacturer and S.M.A.R.T status in particular.

You can also go to your HDD manufacturer's site and see if they have diagnostic tools for the HDD and run that. Outside of that, can't think of anything else to help.

    Regards - Charles
