Hello Kaz and welcome,

This sounds like the speakers or any hardware in the speaker chain - cables, the port; how old are they?

Have you physically unplugged the connections and re-connected? Can you hookup another pair to see if that's what it is?

Regards - Charles

Hi Kaz,

its a acer 2700 laptop its only a few months old
If it's that recent, I would take it back to either the retailer or the OEM - should be under warranty.

I also think this is not a case of updating drivers because the system is new.

But, you can give reloading the hardware and drivers a shot.

Through the Control Panel > System > Hardware tab, Device Manager > expand Sound, Video, and Game Controllers. Delete the Sound Card - right click menu - and reboot. XP will re detect and reinstall the hardware.

BTW, is there a yellow question mark next to it?

Regards - Charles

Hi charles

Nope no conflict question marks showing, and when i click on it to delete it theres no option to do that, only propertys & check for hardware changes. is there any other way i can check this or the sound card?

Thanks for the reply

Hi Kaz,

After you've expanded Sound Video and Game Controllers, go thru each of the items, right clicking, the one that allows uninstall is the sound card, should be the 2nd or 3rd item.

A way to find out what the sound card is: Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Properties dialog box > Audio tab > Sound Playback section > what's there is your sound device. Right clicking should have the Uninstall there.

is there any other way i can check this or the sound card?
If by that you mean opening the case, I don't know, but probably not a good idea even if you could.

Regards - Charles
