I have at least 25 of the following type files on my computer: $MS131Uninstall_KB893803$

Is it alright to delete these files? I have had no conflict with any of the update or Service Pack files. And my computer works just fine. These probably account for many MB's of hard disk space.

I have Windows XP Home Edition.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You should not delete these "directories "
All that directories that you have found on %systemroot% are from hotfixes and service pack.
If you really want to delete them all, go to add/remove programs and them remove the hotfixes.
That is not a good choise and you should not do anything with these directories.
I understand that you are those guys who like the C: drive clean and out of strange files and folders but you can just hidde the system files then you will never see these ones anymore :D

Thanks for the advice. I thought that they were just uninstall files.

Yes, that's what they are. And it is ok to remove them if you want. I would burn them out though, at least the latest ones.

Any update prior to SP2, if you installed it, is useless, or any IE cumulative update prior to the latest, is also useless.

And don't touch the Add/Remove entries.

    Hi Windux,

but you must have sure that you will never unistall it after that
That's why I added the advice to burn them out - latest that is. Downloading any of these files again will enable removal of the patch(s).

And would you remove a patch that is month's old? I doubt it, that would really create a problem. Or a patch that predated SP2? Now if you really were bored and wanted something to do, that would be ticket :)

    Regards - Charles

Safe to delete but should be backed up and burned to cd first. Should you need this nfo further down the line you can copy the uninstall files back in from the burned cd. Recommended only you trully need to recover the space. If you are doing this only to be fussy about disk cleanup, you need to learn to ignore the small, insignificate stuff and pick your battles better. Lord knows windows can throw enough of these at you from time to time.... :)
