can't read file headers...unknown file format

a year or so ago, i burned some jpg's on a cd..some were created by a sony mavica digital camera on a windows 98 emachine.....i put them in folders and burned them....at the same time, i scanned some jpg's and burned them on the same cd........I now have a new computer and use Win XP... none of the jpg's created by the camera will open....i get the 'can't read file header....unknown file format'...all the jpg's created by the scanner will open ok....any idea how to fix this problem.....most of those jpg's are irreplacable family photos....

When you look at the file name of the pics you took with that camera, is the file extension still ".jpg"?

Are the files larger than Zero bytes?

Might try coping the files to the hard drive. Right click on them ->Properties and make sure they aren't read only.

yes ...the pics show their size in kbs

when i right click on a pic on the cd.....go to properties...the pics are read only because they are on the cd...when i try to remove the check mark beside read only...this comes up (an error occured applying attributes to the file..E:/Mothers Day 2001.jpg....access is denied)

when i right click on a pic on the cd...and click copy everything seems ok,,but when i go to the desktop and try to paste........this message........
(cannot copy Mothers Day 2001:cannot read from the source file or disk

A longshot - try a UDF reader .....

Several here - which one to use may depend on the burning program originally used ....

thanks.....i tried downloading roxio UDF reader...it didn't work......

i still have the old computer the cd was burned with but it won't open the pics either..........somehow they have become corrupted........the only common denominator is they were created by a sony mavica camera that used a floppy for storing the pics......then the floppy was used to get them into my old computer.......
