Media Drives have Drive Letters, but no Drive Letters in My Computer

I have a dual Opteron 246/TYAN K8W S2885 Motherboard/4 Gig Ram/SATA RAID 1/ w/Addl. SATA Drives - system running Win XP Pro 32 bit - There are Drive Letters for all the Hard Drives in Disk Management, and My Computer, - and there are Drive Letters when I right click to Properties on the Media Drives - but No Drive Letters for any of the Media Drives in My Computer. I am unable to use my DVD Writer Plextor 716 A internal EIDE , or my CDRW Plextor PlexWriter Premium internal EIDE with Retrospect Back up 7.04 since it does not see any Drive Letters for the Media Drives. I am able to write to the media in the Drives otherwise, and can use Roxio, and other software with the drives. I also Have a Iomega 750 Zip internal EIDE, Iomega REV USB external, Iomega Zip 250 External USB, & a 7 in 1 Floppy - standard, with the 6 other USB Internal - which have no Drive Letters in My Computer either, but do have Drive Letters when - Right Clicking on the device. Is there a solution for this issue? I am not on a network, only shared printers, and have no mapped drives using the same drive letter assignments. I have TweakUI but have not changed anything pertinent to this problem, I also changed Group Policy for security - according to a reference book - I had the same setup in Group Policy for security on another computer that died a couple months ago - but had none of these issues with Drive Letters in My Computer for media devices. I made no attempt to play with the Registry or Group Policy to speed up performance. I am usually very conservative about any tweaking. I was carefull about the Drive Letter assignments when setting up the computer - but I did have to play around with Drive Letters on the Hard Drives initially. I have System Commander - latest version - for a future Dual or Multi Boot install and have hidden Partitions on all the Hard Drives for future install of Novell Linux 9.3, & Win XP Pro 64 Extended. But I have not been able to get this install working cleanly - so have not started any additional installs. I made sure the hidden partitions do not match the drive letters of the Media Drives - but there still seems to be a conflict somewhere because of this issue with My Computer not assigning Drive Letters.
Thanks,

Do the drives appear below the disk drives when you right-click My Computer, Manage, Disk Management?

If they do you should be able to assign (or reassign) letters to them.

drive letters appear for Rev & 750 Zip Drive but not CDRW;& DVDRW Plextor IN Disk Management, no Drive letter for the CDRW, and the DVDRW Plextor drives except when right clicking in My Computer. I changed the drive letters for the Iomega 750 Zip Drive - internal EIDE, and the Iomega Rev External USB - but these also still do not have letters in My Computer.
