Recycle Bin will not empty

Just got finished cleaning up an XP Home SP2 machine from various spyware infections and trojans.

The recycle bin shows 36 items in it but when you brouse it's empty.
After you empty it still shows 36 items.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
I already tried that.

Just looking around the web it looks like a common problem but haven't really found a solution.

Success!!

Booted in safe mode and loged on as the default Administrator.
Oddly enough the bin showed empty in this profile and "Empty recycle bin" was greyed out indicating it was empty.

Well I deleted C:\Recycler and some things I saw as they were being deleted were Nprotect. So obviously this had a previous install of System Works that didnt go away gracefully. So all is well now and it also explains why I had some critters that kept returning on every boot.

Excellent news Now come to think of it ... that's what I did - maybe? It's the old grey cells you know - not as grey as they once were
