I recently purchased a new laptop w/ XP. Everytime I start up, I get a pop up from the task bar at bottom of screen saying: Wireless Network Connection is not Connected ... Wireless network unavailable.

The startup process doesn't complete until I click "close" on this notification.

I am not a subscriber to any wireless service and want to disable this pop up. It's become a nusiance since I have to be alert to click "close" after it pops up or start up is stopped at this point.

How can I remove this "notification" ?

    Thanks in advance.

I think but am not sure if you disable the wireless connection by right clicking the wireless icon in the sys tray and click "Disable ". This, i think should stop the "Wireless network is not connected" message from coming up.

If the following service is running, it could be the culprit.
If you are not using wireless connections, no need to have service running.

    My Computer "Right click "
    Select "Manage "
    Select "Services "
    Disable "Wireless Zero Configuration "
(If above service is running, first stop the service .. then disable)

If you require WIFI on your computer at a later date,
this service will need to be turned back on.

In the control panel open the network connections applet. Right click on the wireless connection>properties and uncheck the line that says "notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity ". Another alternative would be to disable the wireless network adapter in device manager. There's really no sense to having it load when you aren't using it anyway. ;)

Thanks for the feedback. I was able to disable the WIFI connection as per your suggestions and can now boot the computer w/o having this pop up.

    Thanks again! :)
