Could someone look and tell me what's inside the "\Program Files\Movie Maker" folder

If you have never used Windows Movie Maker in XP, could you please go to: C:\Program Files\Movie Maker, and please tell me what's inside that folder? What's inside, if any in the folder that's there? Thank you very much,

Thank you. The files you posted, are they from WMM that hasen't been used?

 

I'm running XP Pro with SP2 and never run movie-maker. Comparing my root to surferdude's I havent got moviemk.prx or sample.wmv and the size/date of wmmfilt/res/util are all different.

 

I've never run Windows Movie Maker, either (XP Pro SP2). I don't have Movie Maker\moviemk.prx, but I do have Movie Maker\sample.wmv. I don't have Movie Maker\MUI\0409\ moviemkloc.prx.

If I double-click on Movie Make\sample.wmv, Windows Media Player 10 opens and the sample movie plays.

 

I have never used the program since I have no movies. I have opened it and explored the menu features but that's the limit of my usage.

 

What's the problem?

 

I had a program I used to edit movie files. When I did ONE movie, checked the folder, it added many, many diferent kind of files. All from just one video file. After I deleted the video file, all the others that where made, stayed W/O being deleted.

I tried WMM, when I opened up a video file, I couldn't stop WMM from spliting it into 144 seprate pieces. Since I couldn't get it to work, I deleted the file. (Don't want a copy of the movie file in every program I've tryed it in). Went in to the folder to get rid of what else might of been made with it.

I saw a bunch of stuff I didn't know what was already in there and what was made when I tried to work with a video file in WMM. Chris.

 

The dates on the files would be the easy way to detect any changes.

From what I see in the "Options" settings, Movie Maker uses %userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp\ for its temporary storage needs. If you close the program normally, it should clean those up.

I don't see any other cache type files that would retain anything but of course that doesn't mean it couldn't be storing information somewhere outside of the program files folder. That could be something like a MRU files in the Registry or something of that sort.

EDIT: As an update, I have found that Movie maker uses a cache file located at:
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Movie Maker\MEDIATAB0.DAT

Further update: This cache will contain information that points to file sources that you have used. If you have not called up any files to edit, this cache file size will be 4,608 bytes. Anything larger will mean that some outside material has been used by the program, such as a movie or pictures you call up. You can manually delete this cache and the program will be pristine again.
