    Can I put an icon for "My Recent Documents" on my desktop in Windows XP Pro? All of my other files, documents, and programs have icons there, so it would be more convenient to access "My Recent Documents" there also. As it is, I have to press Start, then "My Recent Documents ". I realize that this is a very minor question. On the other hand, if there is a way to do it, I would appreciate knowing what it is. Thanks for any response.

    From Explorer, browse to \Documents and Settings\{your user name}
    Select My Recent Documents
    Right mouse
    Sendto

    Thanks, Phil, for your prompt response. However, when I follow your procedure with the folder "Recent ", all 135 filenames in this folder are displayed, not just the most recent 15. Furthermore they are not in any order that I can determine. This is not very helpful either. To be more specific, is there a way to put an icon on the desktop that displays only the most recent 15 files used, which is what the "My Recent Documents" button displays? And if Windows/XP Pro will NOT do this, is there a (hopefully) freeware utility program that will do it?

    Thanks again for any response.

    Just Right-Click and hold on the folder.

    Drag over to the Desktop, ( or where ever you want it to be ) release and you will get several choices, One of which should be " Create a Shortcut here "

    You can do this with any folder or file. I have A LOT of them show up when I select Start. In fact I have several Folders that I created. Such as GAMES, Network Games, System Files etc. Specific Web Sites etc. Makes like much easier.

    There are 135 displayed, because it shows you the entire folder contents.
    The 15 limit on the start menu is controlled by a registry setting.

    As for the sort order, just click on View > Details
    Then, click on the column header to sort by that field. (click twice to sort in descending order)

    Or, use View > Arrange icons by.

    This appears to be a free utility that may do what you wish.

    Thanks to BillyBob for the right-click tip. I hadn't tried that on folders and it worked. I was also confused because there wasn't any date modified column showing, but that was because the filename column was too wide. Once I narrowed it, it worked fine and also remained narrow the next time I accessed it.

    Thanks also to Whitphil for the freeware suggestion. However, it was shareware, not freeware. Another freeware option that I found was ActualDoc Lite, which is actually pretty interesting. However, it had several annoying features that I couldn't figure out how to change so I quit using it.

    So I am back to using the Recent folder, which apparently also shows folders as well as files, but that's Ok, I guess.

    So thanks again, and I'm done experimenting with this.
