I have read the article Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Create Bootable CD and have a few questions.

I have a early XP Pro OEM CD ( pre SP1 ) it is a full CD and does not do any "patches" as mentioned in the articile that would preclude its use to make an SP2 slipstream.

What I noted is that when you slipstream you are just patching the i386 folder. You are using a direct copy of the boot image "Microsoft Corporation.img ".

Will this Slipstream now support installing on partitions over 120GB?

On my last reload I swapped out my failed 40Gb drive for a 200Gb. Installing from the CD I was only able to make a single 120 GB partition, and install the O/S on it.

Once on the desktop I installed SP1 - after which the additional HDD space became available in Disk manager. I then made a second partition to use this space.

I am planning another upgrade (adding a much faster 250Gb drive as the system drive, moving the 200gb to a USB2 enclousure.) and it would be best to do it as a clean install.

Edit- BTW you might choose to add this info (large disk install) to that article to clarify.

    Thanks All!

I haven't slipstreamed SP2 yet, but I did SP1. It did act just as an XP SP1 disk and overcome the problem with seeing over 137 GB.

Following Arie's directions, making an SP2 cd is not very complicated, and it does save time. If you slipstream an SP2 disk, you don't need to install SP1. SP2 is cumulative. I have some MS updates marked SP3, now, so I would suggest going to MS anyway, to check for updates, when you are online again. I like clean installs, but some would just use their drive image backups. Guess the call would be dependent on your current situation.

If thats the case then I would have to assume that the initial setup program is loading from the i386 folder and not just using the ramdrive kernal. - Thats great as it makes life simple.

    re: new patches labeled SP3

If these can be downloaded as network push type patches I'll add a folder to the CD for these. (space permitting.)

    Thanks for the replies.
