windows xp sp2 - java

    I have recently had windows xp sp2 installed on to my machine. Since then I have been unable to install activeX or a compatible java programme. I have been to the sun web page but still I am unable to download java 1.4.2 or 1.5. Is this because this programme is no longer compatible with sp2 or is there another I can use?

    Are you unable to download the file from Sun or are you unable to install it once you have it downloaded?

    Are you getting any error messages? If so, what is the exact wording of the message?

    It appears to start installing, windows installer starts to run, but then it justs freezes the screen. There is no error message displayed. I have read somewhere that xp sp2 does not support java is this correct do u know?? :)

    That is incorrect - SP 2 supports Java - running on my m/c XP PRO SP 2.

    Download it from here, save to hard drive and install ....

    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html

    You want J2SE v1.4.2_07 JRE
