You'll need help from a 3rd party software to do that without losing data.

Partition Magic is good for that.

You may also consider Drive Image since it can do that and also you can use it later for disk imaging backups.

    Making an additional partition

You can use Partition Magic to create 1) reduce the size of the current partition
and 2) create a new partition in the available space.

Make sure you backup your data. I strongly suggest making a disk image using one of the image backup utilities (norton's ghost 9.0 is what i used)

    alternative partitioning tool...

Now that Symantec owns Powerquest (former owners of PartitionMagic and DriveImage), I have been using Acronis DiskDirector for partitioning. Also TruImage works great for 'imaging' your hard drive. Info HERE .

    partioning tools

I have to agree with the gentleman about the Acronis products. I have used the others for many years and swore by them, and only recently have had issues with those products. But on my new XP system i tried Acronis DiskDirector to partion my notebook and TrueImage to save backups after installing all my programs. I am hooked by how easy it worked for me!
