Over time my "open with" right click context menu item has become fouled with duplicates and non functioning references. How do I clean it up? thanks

Kelly's index seems to be incorrect for some reason. ??

Anyway, here's the way I have it on my stacker:

Start > Run > regedit > and go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\
and find the file extension you want to edit.
Then open the "OpenWithList" folder and delete the entries you don't want to appear on the Right Click list.

You can also edit the Folder Options in Explorer or My Computer, select Tools > Folder Options > File Types > and scroll down to the one that's bugging you. Highlight it and select Restore. That usually will cause the Restore button to change its name to Advanced. Click that Advanced button and highlight Open and delete it. Confirm the action and close out. That will leave the file with no association. You can reassociate it while you are there and assign whatever you like for the default. Some files, such as .dat and the likes, need no association assigned.

If you are running XP, there is a VB script file that removes these user assigned "Open With" entries. Get it here.
