    New to Windows XP guys....:)

Need to know. Any problems with loading Microsoft Word 97 and Microsoft Publisher 98 onto the Windows XP Home platform? Reason for wanting to do this is I have updated to a new computer running Windows XP Home and have a stack of files (Word 97 + Publisher 98) on my old computer I wish to move over to the new computer.

Don't want to update these programs (they would be loaded from existing discs) or spend $$$$. Just checking to see if anyone knows of any problems, or whether they should run just fine?????

    Thanks in advance :)

Office97 should run fine on XP. Don't know for sure but I would assume Publisher98 would as well.

The spell checker for OE will not work natively if Word 97 is used in Windows XP. The OE spell checker is tied to a Microsoft word processor. Word 97 is missing csapi3t1.dll Do a google for it.

    Copy and Paste it to: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft shared\Proof

    Word 97 & Win XP

I have Win XP Home and Word 97 and they are compatible. My PC came with Word 2002 but I got disgusted with it because it seem to always want to be reinstalled. Frustration caused me to remove 2002 and go back to 97. I use it only for Spell Checker or to review something sent as a Word File.

RayH - Don't know why but Word 97's spell checker works fine.

Mudd - at a guess, when you removed Word 2002, some pieces remained and those included the ones to make spell check work.

Bet you are right. RayH seemed to know what he is talking about. Dumb luck gets me by whereas knowledge get others on the good road.

No charge. It was based on my experience with Office Pro 97.

So Word 97 may produce TWO problems. It may not do spell check and grammar period and it may not do it with OE. But both are patchable.

Mine was based on experience based on Word 97 via Office 97. From the Office 97, it had no problems with .doc files; only with OE.
