    Hello all!

I quote one of my posts in another thread:

Well, I went back today and wanted to give the Members a new background picture. The computer registry has been modified to allow the Members almost nothing so, in order to do that, I have to log in as administrator and temporarily change the Members account to an administrator account.

When I tried to change the account type, in the Members properties, when I clicked the "Member of" tab, there was a message saying that the "Server Service" wasn't started.

I went to check the Services and it wasn't even in the list! I aborted further attempt due to lack of time.

When I came home, I checked my own computer, which was updated to SP2 from SP1a as well, and the "Server Service" is there, set to automatic and is started. The "Member of" tab can be accessed on my computer.

Next, I went to Black Viper to find out what he has to say about this service and I quote:

File and Printer sharing is disabled in TCP/IP on both computers and as long as they were SP1a, both had the "Server Service" but installing SP2 obviously affected one but not the other.

I will go back on wednesday and will enable File and Printer sharing to see what happens.

    I'll be back,
    Christer

I'm back from the meeting at our club. I had a look at the computer and there was a difference between my own computer and that one.

On my own, the "default" installation of the LAN (Client for Microsoft Networks, File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, QoS Packet Scheduler and Internet Protocol TCP/IP) has been maintained but FaPSfMN and QoSPS have been unchecked.

On the computer at the club, FaPSfMN and QoSPS had been removed.

When I added FaPSfMN, the Server Service reappeared in the listing and it was set to automatic and after a reboot, it was started. I could again, in the Members properties, access the "Member of" tab.

We have recently "upgraded" from modem and dialup to broadband and I believe that the guy who installed the NIC and connected, actually removed FaPSfMN and QoSPS and the error has no connection to installing SP2.
