Using System Restore on Boot Up

I seem to recall a thread not so long ago which outlined the procedure for using System Restore before Windows loads, but I cannot find it

Nearly 4 million hits on Google - I'm not going through all of those

Can any one help me out on this, please?

Hi Pete,

Other than going thru safe mode, I don't know of any; is the safe mode procedure what you mean?

Regards - Charles

Hi Charles,

No - I had a feeling that there had been a thread on using System Restore on a computer which would not boot into Windows.

It would not be the first time I have been mistaken

As far as I know, Pete, if Last Known Good or safe mode command line, %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe., doesn't work/isn't an option, ASR (Pro) may be the only other option, short of using RC to fix whatever is keeping the PC from booting.

Jim - you can do it, sorta, kinda, sometimes.

The closest I can think of is the process described Here where you boot to a safe mode command prompt and type in
%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe.

You can often get to a command prompt safe mode when you can't start the GUI at all.

Thanks - that's exactly what I was looking for - was just too tired to search in depth last night!

Dave

And thank you - unfortunately I don't remember setting up ASR on this particular m/c (not mine, although I built it). I have used it with success on mine on a couple of occasions.
