The last time I open my Customize Notifications to select an action for one of my tray icons I noticed about a million past icons below the current icons. Is there a way to remove the past icons?

Start\Run. In the Open box type in regedit click ok. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\TrayNotify. Delete Icon Streams and PastIconsStream. Exit registry. Go to Task Manager(right click on the taskbar)\Processes. Highllight explorer.exe click end process. You'll get a warning click Yes. Then go to File\New Task(Run) type in explorer click OK, restart your computer..

I can't find TrayNotify under Explorer in the registry. Did I miss something. I'm running XP Home. Thanks

Click on the little plus sign next to Explorer then scroll down the list and highlight the key Tray Notify then look in the right pane for IconStreams and PastIconsStream. It should be there. I have deleted the Past Icons in both XP Home and Pro.

I did click the plus to expand Explorer the first time. For some reason I just don't see TrayNotify in the list.

Well, I guess it's true. A picture is worth a thousand words. Not that the picture showed me were TrayNotify was, but is caused me to read lj50 reply again. It was at that time my brain woke up and I saw that I started on the wrong key, duh. Anyway, all my past icons are history. Thanks
