    The subject apps are executed upon bootup and are listed in MSConfig\
    Startup. Are they required to be running all the time?

    schedhlp: I know this is a part of Acronis True Image and since i only do
    full backups, never an incremental. So i don't know what purpose this app
    serves by being running all the time.......

    jusched: I believe i can stop this one since (supposedly) it will just check
    for updates to SUN Java.................

    thanks,
    savagcl

    Sun Java Update Schedule - yes, you can stop this one with no ill effects, except you need to check for updates manually, of course. But the scheduler only logs on once a month anyway - assuming you are on line at the time.

    schedhlp - no idea as I don't use Acronis.

    Hi savagcl,

    From msconfig you can find backgroup programs. You can also find some in the services tab after checked the "Hide All Microsoft Services ".
    A good idea is that do not disable any startup items in msconfig.
    You can disable them in foloowing places:
    1. Start->Programs-> Startup
    2. In the registry(Start->Regedit),
    HKEY_local_machine/software/microsoft/windows/current version/run
    HKEY_current_User/software/microsoft/windows/current version/run
    3. Right click "My Computer" icon on the desktop, "Manage ", go "services ", you can disable the services you do not want.

    Some Dll files can be uninstalled using:
    start-> Run-> regsvr32 /u name.dll

    Enjoy.

    Another simpler way of seeing/controlling what runs at startup is through Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel
