My System

System Restore Trick

We have advised many people to delete all their SR points after a virus or other registry problem, and we always say to just turn it off, then on. That works to delete all points. But, there are times you want to delete all but the last one created and in XP, there is a way to do that.

Start> All Programs> Accessories > System Tools > Disk Clean up

"Okay" the drive your SR points live on, Windows quickly calculates, then click the "More Options" tab. On the bottom is the option to delete all but the last SR point.

Martinr121 if you go here, be very very careful if you get to looking at the first option on that box- remove unused Windows components- it will want your XP cd, and you don't want to risk another WPA. LOL!!

Thanks Johanna, never even looked that.

One caveat, if there is a chance that some restore points in the chain are currupted, then they all should be deleted by the "turn off". I think you and Zander pointed out that each restore point relies on the previous one

One more "trick". To reduce the number of points down and keep more than just the last one - move the slider to the left thereby reducing the space for System Volume file - either let "churn" or reboot. Then if wanted, move the slider back to the original position.
