On XP boot-up, everything proceeds normally, including the green-background [no wallpaper] Desktop appearing, but it is bare of all the usual icons. There is a long delay before the icons appear. This started happening just recently on my Dell Pentium 4 desktop computer running XP Home Edition with 512 meg of DDR RAM
My first thought was that Windows is hunting for something that should load at boot-up, but for some reason is taking longer to load than usual--some old app or driver that changed enough to take longer loading or some new change to the system causing the delay. Thing is, I haven't added anything nor made any other significant changes to the system that I am aware of.
Any suggestions on causes and fixes for this aggravating glitch would be much appreciated.
Thanks for your time and consideration.
