Dave: Just a believer in Murphy's Law, and the intimate knowledge of compounding errors. Like my daddy used to tell the story of "for want of a nail the horseshoe was lost" in which a minor glitch led to the loss of the war.

Besides, I have had 3 BSODs in the last two days, just trying to find what might be causing them.

So, the answer is yes, I'm just looking for things to fix.:D

Me too! And with my grandfather being a Murphy, sometimes I think his law's were passed down to me and will forever be applied whenever possible. :(

I'll see if I can find any info for you, as I'm sure others will be looking also.

    Martin,

Just noticed that is the exact same error you first posted in the other event viewer thread. Still getting the other errors too?

I'd try uninstalling and reinstalling the SNMP service. Control Panel>add-remove programs>add-remove windows components. Click on Managment and Monitoring Tools and then click the details button. You'll find it there.

Are you using IPX/SPX/NetBIOS protocol in your network configuration?

Dave: Yes, the IPX is enabled. Disable?

Zander: If so, try which first?

Well, do you need it? Using NetBIOS for your home network? Will it work properly without it?
Wish I could give you a definite yes or no answer Martin. I'm just looking for a connection to your error, and it appears the IPX is connected. May all be connected to that update you had. Could have possibly jumbled the configuration settings somewhere and maybe just need reset or uninstalled/reinstalled, as well as the SNMP Service.

    More straw gathering :)

Thanks Dave, I think what I'll do is uncheck the IPX and see what happens. If the home network continues to work ok and the error is gone, I'll be happy. I'll also try uninstall of snp and reinstall if step one doesn't work.

    Will Post back results.

If the network works OK without it, remove it from the configuration.

We must be barking up the wrong tree! I have uninstalled the IPX, uninstalled and reinstalled SNP service, same error still cropping up.

    Exasperating!!

Martin - there may be a pair of registry entries that take part in the process of telling SNMP (simple network management protocol) which agents to load and from what specific dlls when it starts.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SNMP\Parameter\ExtensionAgents

    And

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE

Do you have both of them? If so, does the SOFTWARE\Microsoft\IPXMibAgent have a path statement that points to a valid location (as in, you can find the file it points to)?

Also, and as already suggested, since whatever it is apparently is not working but that is not causing you problems, if you blow away the registry entries, you'll quit seeing the error.

Hi All: I deleted the registry keys as per Newt's post. IPxMib error gone from system event viewer. Thank you so much.

Now, if I could just get rid of the ATI and UDNT errors........

Dave: are you sure?? Here is the UDNT error:

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: Service Control Manager
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 7000
    Date: 3/3/2004
    Time: 12:14:39 AM
    User: N/A
    Computer: CATASTROPHY
    Description:
The UDNT service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the device specified.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

This would be the easy one compared to the ATI errors. I think taking this one first might be the way to go. But I will bow to the collective intelligence of the people on the board and post the ATI errors if an all error approach is better.

It is just that those errors seem to be deeply imbeded in the system, I did a file search on ATI and turned up dozens of files. A Reg search turned up about 40. Deleting the reg entries really confused the machine, disabled my AV, etc. so I put them back.

So if all at once is the consensus, I'm in.

Thanks for your continued support and interest.

    Martin

P.S. I can't find UDNT service in services, I have disabled ATI services (2) but still get the errors.

Haven't had much of a chance to do anything with it. Trying to gather up some info for you. In process of d/l some UMAX drivers to force install on an old drive to see if I can help with this. Will try to get back with you on this sometime this weekend. Hang in there.

Thanks Dave, I thought you guys had abandoned me!

That would not have surprised me as many troubles I have posted on the board in the last 90 days or so.

I figured it must be getting tiresome to all. So I'm really glad to hear from you. I'll try to keep my troubles and posts to a minimum in the future.

    Martin

P.S. I am very grateful for all the help on this board I have received in the past and surely do not want to wear out my welcome.
