Zander,

I had never seen a registry without the run- key either but guess what, I just looked in mine and I have no run- either. I used to! I even did a search. Nothing. Don't know where it could have gone. I certainly have unchecked entries in msconfig. Gonna have to get to the bottom of this mystery!!

jslow,

Did you recheck the unchecked entries and reboot to see if they would then show up in StartupControlPanel?
To search the registry, click edit>find and press enterafter typing search word. Press F3 to continue searching for more entries until 'finished searching registry' message.

Hi noahdfear,
After checking my unchecked items & rebooting, they did not show up in Start Up control Panel.

When I uncheck certain items in msconfig, they show up again as a new item that is checked while the same old item remains in msconfig unchecked.

Thanks

Here's another utility you can try. Autostart Explorer. I haven't used it personally so can't tell you anything about it.

I wonder is this could be due to the fact that you're missing the run- key. I'd try creating the run- key and then see how msconfig acts. It's up to you of course, but I don't think you can hurt anything doing it. You could put an entry into the run key that points to a text file or anything and then remove it in msconfig and see if it ends up in the run- key (as it should).

Hi Zander,
Thanks for your suggestion.
I haven't tried anything like you suggest and I don't feel comfortable doing it.
