I have a pentium 2.6 MHz computer with win XP.
I was doing something and got a warning message
the I will loose Drive H and it cannot be
restored if I continue. At the time I did not
know what drive H was and continued. Later on
I realized it was my DVD drive. I went into
Device Manager and found the a driver for my
CD-R drive is present but the drive for my DVD
drive is missing. I called the manufacture and
was told all the drivers are already in XP and
they cannot supply a drive. That I have 2 choices:
(1) try to use RESTORE to get it back, and if
that does not work.
(2) See if you can locate the Driver in XP,
and if that does not work.
(3) I will have to use the Recovery disk to
format with means I will loose all my
installed programs.
I will not be able to get back to this computer
for a week. Would RESTORE do the job, or how
can I find the driver for my DVD drive in XP.
I tried to install new hardware and that did
nothing. I donot want to format.
Any Help will be appreciated>
Thanks, Jerry

Try going into Device Manager, go to the DVD drive, right click, Properties and choose to uninstall it. Reboot the PC and XP should find new hardware and install it.
The problem is the DVD disappeared from
device manager. The only thing showing is my
CD-R drive. If restore does not work to restore
the DVD drive I am going to disconnect it, boot
up then reboot and hope wondows will look for a
new device and install it.
