I have been having problems with the Address Bar no mater what I use as the home page. After turning on the computer every thing visible loads really fast but if I try to use the address bar drop down or type in a new URL I have to wait for a good while (3-4 minutes) for the process to start. I can click on anything else and it immediately loads.

After several days of hunting I started a process of elimination in System Configuration. This morning I narrowed it to the System Configuration Utility/Services/Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) program. With this file unchecked all is well but as soon as I put it back in the problems starts again.

So far I don’t see anything that is not working with it unchecked.

****Does anyone know if I am creating a bigger problem by leaving it unchecked? Or better still does anyone know how to fix the problem properly?

I am using Win XP with IE 6.0 and Office2003

    Hi Swabbie

Just some thoughts - you probably don't need WIA unless you have a digital camera - don't know about scanners, but I don't recall having a WIA driver until I aquired a digital camera.

According to Black Viper WIA is used for some scanners, web cams and cameras. If after disabling this service your scanner or camers fails to function prpoerly, enable this service by putting it into automatic.

Default setting XP Home, XP Pro and Safe Setting - Manual.

Hummm, I tested my scanner and I downloaded pictures from my digital camera and both worked. Oh well, I just have to remember that I stopped the WIA if something pops up later that is not working.

Outa here for a week so if anyone makes a post I will l get back to ya later.

    Thanks to all.
