 I need some assistance please. I have searched every where I can possibly think of.
I d/l a trial version of a program to limit my son's activities on the computer. I didn't like the way it did things so I uninstalled it. This was a program called AYE Parental Control from http://www.ayesoftware.com/product.php.
For some reason I have lost in my start Menu the Shut Down part. All I have is the log off. Once I use that, the option comes up with to stand bye, shut down or restart. I am using the classic Start mode. I have gone into properties/csutomise and under advance Start menu options I no longer have the check box display log off. It seems the program has edited the registry. I have tried to do a regs restore but that failed. Any suggestions on how to restore this. I am using Win XP Pro.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post.

    Regards,

    Arm:mad:

Do you have a system restore point from before you installed the app?

Ouch. Was hoping it would be that simple. But the System Restore that ships with XP only deals with system files and a couple of essential fonts. Other things don't get fixed.

For future reference, I like Roxio's GoBack and use it with system restore turned off. GoBack does soup-to-nuts and a roll back gives you everything just like it was before things broke. And I break mine regularly. :D But that won't help at this point.

It's possible the program did some messing around with your local security policies. Try
    start~run~secpol.msc
and look around in there. You'll need to be logged on with an administrative account. But if you fine a policy that sets restrictions you don't like, you can certainly turn it/them off and not hurt your system.

Meanwhile, I'm getting rid of your other thread. If you do decide on trying an OS reload, we can discuss it here. Easier to keep all the related stuff in one place.

:) Thanks for getting back to me. I did something like what you suggested but mine was Start~Run~gpedit.mcs. I had some luck but I found this site http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm which I loaded numer 267. That brought back my shut down the computer option in the start menu, however, if I right click on the start menu~properties~Customize~Advance Start Menu Options, I still do not have the check box to disply log off. Now I have tried to restart my system booting form the Win XP Pro CD. But it asks for administrator password which I did and the goes to C:\Windows> prompt. That's as far as I can go. So, I still want to do a repair, but I'm stuck. And yes, just like you, I am always playing around and messing things up. Any suggestions are still appreciated and very much welcomed.
