CPU Performance red on bottom

I've looked through all the threads about CPU usage, and slow performance, but I could not find any info on a strange anomaly on my System.

When I pull up task manager, and switch to CPU performance my colors are reversed. No matter how much CPU performance is measured, even at 20%, the majority of the bottom of the performance meter is red, while a small part of the top is green. This seems backwards, or would seem to indicate some other problem.

Heard of this before ?

System Config:

Dell PIII 600MHz, 640MB RAM, 100GB Maxtor HD,
TDK 32x CD Burner, Toshiba DVD-ROM

It does sound normal, I have red at the bottom as well.

Me too, but what does the red indicate?

 

I think the red indicates the usage of the core OS components such as the multiple Svchost.exe entries. I'm quessing here, so far I can't find any references to colors.

If you bring up TM in safe mode, no user apps running, its almost all red.

Click on "view" > "show kernel times ".

To get both the red (kernel times) and green, open task manager, then click performance>view>show kernel times. If you want to get rid of the red, uncheck it.

 

If you want to see something quite interesting. Watch the CPU usage as you scroll around the screen using the scrollwheel or the slider at the side of the screen.

Then If you have a scrollwhell, press it to get the circle with arrows in it and move the mouse around.
