I've been using XP home for a year.In the past two days I've been having a problem with the taskbar disappearing from view.It won't stay visible for more than one second when I go to full screen. When I move the cursor down to make the taskbar visible it will pop up then quickly go down.I've tried everything I know of but to no avail.

Right click on the taskbar and make sure "Lock the Taskbar" is checked. Control and Escape pressed at the same time should bring it back whenever it is hiding.

  3. to hide this advert.

    Hi, Philbert ~
    • Right-click your taskbar > 'Properties'
    • 'Taskbar' tab
    • Uncheck 'Auto-hide the taskbar'
    • Check 'Keep the taskbar on top of other windows'
    • Check 'Lock the taslkbar' last
    • 'Apply' > 'OK'

I've already tried what has been suggested but it makes no difference. The taskbar will not stay visible for more than one second.

In other words, you want the taskbar to be in sight all the time?

    If so, Uncheck autohide.

Auto-hide has been unchecked. The taskbar has been locked. "Stay on top of other pages" is checked.Nothing works. When in full screen the taskbar will not stay visible for more than one second. To see it again I have to move the cursor up then down to the bottom but the taskbar wont stay visible.

OK, I get it now. When in full screen the un-hid taskbar hides unless you pass the cursor over the taskbar. It will stay open as long as the mouse pointer stays over the taskbar but closes if you move the pointer.

Mine works the same way. Full screen means All the screen I guess.

Does your taskbar only blink on for a second and go away even if the pointer stays there?

Edit: I just noticed that mine will blink on and back off every so often also. Usually it's after I have changed the unlocked to locked. It only does it once and goes back to normal.

Even if the cursor is left over the taskbar it will not stay open. This just started so I wonder if there is a setting for this.I can't find anything that pertains to how long the taskbar is supposed to stay open.

    Hi, Phil ~

Hit F11 to take it off of full screen. When in 'Full Screen' mode, you cannot adjust the taskbar from auto-hiding - that is the purpose of 'Full Screen' - to clear the title, menu, and task bars.

I suggest you use 'Maximize' instead if you are attempting to capitalize on the FOV real estate.

Since this just started recently I'd try the easy route first and give system restore a try. Have you tried this yet?
