Add Hardware Wzard

When I try to use the add hardware wizard. I get the error cannot run two device installations at the same time. Try again when first installation has finished.
I know of nothing that is being installed and the system works OK.
Is there any way I can find out what is apparently failing to instal properly and blocking the wizard.
Thanks

Look in Device Manager for any hardware problems.

Are you sure that Windows is not trying to automatically install the device you are trying to install via the Wizard ?

Thanks for the responses.
I always get the error even if I just select the wizard from sys properties hardware.
Plug and play works but I have to finish installing drivers manualy.
The only problem in device manager is with something under other devices/unknown device PCI standard ISA bridge this is cannot start code 10. Ihave tried unistal/reinstal no effect.
I have disabled this for some time now with no effect on my system. This appears in sys devices as ISApnp read data port.
Sorry this is so long

Length is not a problem - at least not on this board it's details we need to be able to help.

Have you recently installed XP ?

Does your m/b have a VIA chipset - it could be that you need to update the VIA 4 in 1 drivers for the chipset. Also for Intel chipsets, but the mention of ISA bridge sounds a bit like a basic Windows driver.

One suggestion - check your bios settings and look for an update from your mobo's site.

Thank you PeteC
Win XP came already installed 2 years ago.
My M/B is an ASUS A7V266-E, VIA KT266A (n)
VIA VT8233 (s), it has no ISA slots.
I have checked the BIOS but I am not too sure what I am looking for but seems OK to me.
I will check for VIA updates, Thanks again

I have tried new VIA update.
My problem remains. No change at all.

A repeat of Gary's question - what hardware are you trying to install?

The last thing I installed was a Wacon tablet. It went OK o P&P but to make it work I had to install the drivers manually. This is generally the case.
Even with nothing to instal if I select the wizard I get the message that another item is being installed try again when it is finished. It never finishes. Is there no way of identifing what is being installed?

I have Wacom tablets on 2 pc's - the procedure you describe is normal - apart from the drivers there is the Control Panel applet to install.

As to the Wizard question the only suggestion I have is a repair of XP - plenty of posts on that subject on the board.

BTW - Have you looked on the Asus site for an updated BIOS?

If I click on Add Hardware in the control panel I get the same message, only one device can be installed at the same time etc
I have downloaded a BIOS update but I am a bit nervous of attempting it.

P.S. My PC came with XP installed and only the OEM disk.
Do you think I repair XP with this disk?
