A couple things that need checking.
    Is your video card overheating?
What programs are running in the background?
    Have you checked for spyware?
AdAware and Spybot come to mine for this.
Have you run a AV [antivirus] check with up to date parameters? If not Housecall is a free online service
Be sure to keep a eye on msconfig as lot of programs when you install them add stuff in there. And you might not want it starting.

Hi All: Speaking of msconfig, anybody know where Startup Cop can be downloaded. CNet says no longer available.

    Try this instead:

    Startup control
    http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

This gives simple and full control of what starts at boot up. After install there will be a Startup icon in control panel. Why this over Msconfig? Msconfig only allows unchecking/disabling of items. Startup Control panel allows deleting items or moving from startup to run as a service etc.

    Martin ...

If you still want Startup Cop, it's available (along with a lot of other neat little utilities) on the PC Mag site.

JSS3RD: Thanks a lot, just finished download.

mflyn: Thanks for the link, I have used startupcpl and startupcop. I just like startupcop's ability to save start up profiles where I can choose to change start programs & restart with one click.
