Is there any advantage to partioning a large drive.
I am running WIN XP PRO with 120G HDD?

I was thinking of making a separate partion for the stuff I add to every day--IE: My documents & Favorites.

Once you make a partion or partions how hard is it to transfer data from one to another?

There is a great advantage to partitioning.

Unless XP gets stubborn about it you should be able to change the default path of the items you mention and have all added things go there by deafult.

I do not know about XP ( yet ) put with 98 this is a very simple process.

Also partitioning and keeping a lot of installed software on a different partition helps to preserve a lot of data if the C: drives goes South on you.

I myself have nothing but the OS and associacted programs on the C: drive.

Making another partition is always a good idea....it's easy to make a new partition too.

You can easily back up files or make copies and store them on the new partition and you can use that partition just for certain files to make things organized.

Thanks guys--that's was what I was thinking--I run a small home based business and would like to keep all the info pertaining to the business on a separate partion.

I have been looking at "Acronis Partion Expert 2003" to do the partioning with. Has anyone had any experience with that way or is there a better partioning method out there.

I've always liked Partition Magic....good powerful software...

even the simple F-Disk does the job though. Just not with the fancy bells and whistles

The advantage of the "bells and whistles" in a programme like Partition Magic 8 is that you can partition an existing active drive with the OS installed. Defragmentation recommended prior though.
