Hey all. In my WinXPPro system, the overlayed arrows on shortcuts have disappeared (i.e., now just look like regular icons). I checked my TweakUI settings and it's set so that the arrow overlay should appear, but it's not. Any ideas on how to fix this?

You are using the XP version of TweakUI?

If you are using the light arrow, they are really hard to see.

Right click on the desktop and select Refresh.

Change it to none and apply then change it back.

You are the first I ever heard of that wanted the arrows to show.:)

Yep, TweakUI from the PowerToys for XP package.

Tried all that before, still not working. Oh well, no big deal.

The reason I wanted the arrows to show was that a) I'm used to it and b) since I'm used to it, I've caught myself almost emailing shortcuts to people rather than the document to which it was pointing. Just a matter of habit.

    Thanks!

There should be an entry under
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile

    like this:

    IsShortcut REG_SZ (data area empty)

That registry hack worked! Just had to reboot to have it show up on the shortcuts.

    Thanks Abraxas!

Glad it worked. I didn't want to reboot to try it, so thanks for the info.

At first, getting rid of the arrows seemed like a good idea. But, like you, I now want to know that shortcuts are shortcuts.
