I am having an issue with an XP x86 box that has lost its sound. I have uninstalled the Realtec drivers and installed the latest plus updated the latest Chipset.

All is working properly in device manager, everything is enabled and there is nothing muted but, there is no sound coming from the machine. There are no system sounds either, for what it's worth.

The only thing I can tell you is that when I click the Mute checkbox, I hear a click.

Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks

Thanks, I had been through all the steps without success.

As I said, I hear a click when I click on Mute so, there must be something there

You double checked that you have the Reatlek Audio set as the default device correct?

Have you verified that the speakers work on another computer?

Did this problem happen randomly or did you make any recent changes before this problem occurred?

I installed a sound card and not I can detect sound but there is so much static that it isn't workable. I am suspecting the problem must be on the motherboard but I wouldn''t know where to begin looking.

Did you make the change in BIOS from onboard Audio to External (card).
Could be conflicts or motherboard going south. Neil.

There is no place in the BIOS to specify the audio locale. As a last step, I flashed the BIOS and nothing changed. Time to bury this old guy

    Thanks for the suggestions
