I recently had to reinstall XP SP1 on my system. Is there anyone who has saved the installers and can upload them? I would be deeply appreciative of any help, thanks in advance.

    Hi rthompson.

Here are the updates for Windows XP that are major which you can install manually. You should install them in the order that is presented:

Windows XP Service Pack 3 Network Installation Package.

    Internet Explorer 8.0 Windows XP.

    Windows Media Player 11.

Windows Search 4.0 for Windows XP (KB940157).

    Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable.

    Update for Windows XP (KB969084).

    DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010).

    .NET Framework Version 4.0.

For the rest of the regular and security updates click Start< All Programs< Windows Update. When the Windows Update page opens allow the Microsoft add-ons to run if prompted. Then click on the Custom option and install all the high priority updates that are shown on the webpage.

    Hello rthompson :)

When I set up new xp I will make sure that service pack three is installed, then install
    360 Total Security

Once installed you can then go to Toolbox then Patchup, this will enable you to install all needed security updates for xp, I am currently doing this on a virtual machine that I am testing malware samples on. I have also tested this on machines that will not accept MS updates and on more than one occasion it has allowed updates and fixed the issue totally.

You may not have two antivirus applications installed on your machine, but you may wish to keep this product as it ranks right up there with paid Kaspersky and Eset.

    See here for review

Once you get rolling and reinstalling all of your programs etc. Please consider the programs below, they are free and should help keep your machine running tip top.

    Ccleaner
    Adguard FFox
    Adguard Chrome
    Malwarebytes Anti Exploit
    Zemana Anti logger Free
    Virit Explorer Av Companion

I hope this information finds you well. :)

Please do, this method has worked for me numerous times, I am happy to share it with you. So long as you have service pack three installed, you should be able to install 360, it is downhill from there. :)

What happened exactly? After the items installed from the links I provided and you tried accessing Windows Update did you get an error message?

Ok and what was the error message that you received? Did you visit Windows Update with Internet Explorer 8?

Hey, Evan I hope I am not imposing here, I just saw this and using 360 is a way around this, if rthompson can get it installed it will patch up to the latest security needed for xp. Most times after using this, then updates will often begin to work again. :)

Good to know Mal. I am still curious what the error message rthompson is getting when accessing Windows Update and if its a generic message with no resolution then we can have him go through your method of getting Windows XP patched up. :)

Yes Evan, it was a generic message with no resolution. I used Mal's direct link and it worked, currently updating.

Alright fair enough. But it would be helpful if you could actually post what the error message was in case someone else has this problem in the future.

Well since you are updating now, then you can patch up any further security loop holes with this program, please then follow any advice that Evan will give to you about possibly getting updates working. :)
