Hi, I have an issue with the start menu and was recommended to restore. Anyway....I can go back all the way to July seeing "system check point" exclusively. I have clicked on everyone and it always comes back can't restore. Confused on this.

    Win xp media edition

    Thanks in advance
    Marty

Hi Marty. Since you marked your other thread resolved regarding the Windows XP Start Menu, I thought you were able to re-pin those items to the Start Menu and that everything was working well?

Can you post the complete error message that System Restore gives you? You might want to try running System Restore in Safe Mode and see if that works.

Hi Evan, I marked it closed cause I thought I could get it back via restore. I am not receiving an error message per se. On every date from yesterday sept 20 2014 back to July 2014, I get "System Checkpoint ". I will try restore in safe mode and see what happens, thanks!

No such luck in safe mode either Evan

You should consult this article for information on resolving your issue with System Restore, Troubleshooting steps for issues when you try to use the System Restore tool in Windows XP.

If System Restore still isn't working properly then you may need to reinstall it but the problem with that method is that it wipes all the old restore points away which may require you to re-pin those Start Menu items manually.

See this link on reinstalling System Restore, How to reinstall System Restore in Windows XP.

Hi Evan, I went back through the restore points again and on Sept 11 (oddly enough) there were 2 items. System Check Point and 1 other. I tried it and it worked. The start items are pinned in place again.

Thanks for your time and patience
    Marty
