I'm still running IE8 on my XP machine, my alternate browser is Google Chrome.

IE8 has started, apparently, logging me off my home page every time I go to another web-site. Every time I return to my home page, I have to wait a couple of minutes for it to reload my account. This is a new phenomenon, only cropped up about 4 weeks ago, but it's getting very aggravating.

Whether its a Comcast issue or an IE8 issue, I'm not sure.

Any advice would be appreciated. I do expect to get onto a more modern platform for my internet activites after Labor Day. I was thinking of going Win 7, but now I'm seeing posts that say MS will cease support for it early next year.

Maybe I have to just bite the bullet and go W 8.1? I could surely do without the hassle. Maybe I'll just go all the way and switch to Apple. DW is already an iPad user. It can't be much more of a change to go from XP to 8.1 than to switch to Apple.

Support has ceased for XP as you know so it could be bug?
W8.1 Pro is what I have on 2 comps and this Notebook. I just built a new comp for the wife and she loves the speed of W8.1 compared to XP she had. Just install a Start Menu software like Start8 for $5.00 and you'll learn your way round it with ease.
The wife thought the Metro Tiling in W8.1 was too much when she tried using this Notebook, so I installed Start8 before I gave her the new comp for Mother's Day and she loves it. Neil.

Did you get anywhere with this?

Does the same issue arise if you run IE without add-ons ?

    Pete:

I'm no closer to understanding why it does it. Maybe it's some kid of glitch with Comcast or some quirk that's embedded itself in the browser. Chrome doesn't exhibit the characteristic, just IE8.

I will mark the thread resolved. I'm planning on the acquisition of a Win 8.1 lap-top between now and Christmas, at which time I'll retire this old XP clunker to non-internet duties, specifically photo editing and Quicken.
