Hi N33dH3lp, Welcome to BBS. :) Please give us more Detail. We need your System Details - UserCP > Edit System Details > and please scroll to the bottom of the page and SAVE before you close out.
If you don't know what's in your comp - speccy is a good bit of software and also BelArc Advisor.
If you visit FileHippo.com you can download them there. Neil.

Nobody is going to read this thread as it stands, especially as you failed to post the URL of the original thread. You should have posted full details here if you wanted any further help in this forum. I have edited your initial post

I downloaded speccy on my win 7 to a usb and transfered it to the xp. I installed it but when I clicked on the icon to run it the computer froze. Thanks for editing my post and thanks everyone for the responses. All I know about the xp is it has 512 MB ram and updated with sp3.

Ok good news for me. I went to start-all programs and once again tried to uninstall my antivirus. Being use to a faster win 7 I might have jumped the gun before. This time i just left it alone and went on to something else. About an hour later I checked and found that it had uninstalled properly. I restarted and found xp unfrozen. I reinstalled the antivirus and all is well. This time speccy ran and I'll post the specs now.

EDit: but I would still like to know if its possible to do a repair install without the oem disk. ( I have 8 disks not 1 ). Can I maybe do it from the i386 folder or something? Also is there a way for me to download the updates after sp3, or retrieve them from the computer somehow?

HI N33dH3lp, Glad to know your comp is not frozen. Can we back up a bit and just explain what you are trying to achieve?
Do you want your XP SP3 comp to operate fully?
Why do you need to re-install the OS?
Have you tried running sfc /scannow which will confirm all system files are in order?
When you filled out the System Details under UserCP - what brand of computer is it? Neil.

Some basic info from the dim and distant past :)

If you need to make a repair install of XP this must be done with an installation CD at the same Service Pack level as the installed OS. Such a CD can be created using a retail installation CD to slipstream Service Packs to create an installation CD at the same Service Pack level as the installed OS .....

Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Create Bootable CD

Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Create Bootable CD

but note that you cannot use an OEM CD to create a slipstreamed SP2 or SP3 CD.
In theory you can re-install XP using the i386 folder ....

I don’t have installation media for Windows. What if I need it?

Scroll down to "A vanishing straw for older Windows: the I386 folder "

IF that worked my guess is that it would .....

Wipe the hard drive - all data lost

Install the original version of XP that was on the computer

You cannot perform a Repair install from the i386 folder AFAIK

Hi retiredlearner. I edited my system details to include the computer brand. I ran the system file checker but all I get is a command prompt screen (or similar) flash very quick then nothing. I waited close to 10 minutes but the computer just sits idle. Usable, but idle.
I don't need to reinstall xp but if I ever have to I would like to be able to get, or retrieve, the post xp3 updates that are already installed on my computer. Just in case. If it's possible that is.

Hi PeteC. If I do slipstream sp3 into a Windows Installation Cd, would that be usable in an xp sp3 oem to do a system repair if need be? I still have an original cd from a computer I bought in the past. Not an oem. By the way, thanks for the links you posted. Good reading.

They should remain available on Windows Update.

If not they can be obtained from MS as an ISO image for each month - snag is with SP3 being released in 2008 that means ~60 ISO images to download and burn :)

    A possible alternative .....

Download all Windows XP Post SP3 Updates
If you have access to a retail XP installation CD the answer is Yes AFAIK. OEM installation CD's from a computer manufacturer are often made specific to that computer by the inclusion of other drivers, software, etc.
