I tried several of the ideas that were entered in response to my original post on this topic, without success. Since my wife got an iPad, she has been complaining that she can't print from it, as my old Lexmark printer didn't have Airprint compatibility.

I took delivery of a new Epson WF-2540 last Saturday and got it up and running successfully in a couple of hours. I shut down at the end of the day as usual and was amazed the next morning when the boot-up took about 3 minutes instead of the previous 15 to 20 minutes.

I don't know what time-delay nasties were built into the Lexmark software, but I'm pleased that they're gone!

A printer should not even be considered as a startup program. You call it up when you need to print something. It should be disabled from starting on startup. I know several printers that I have installed do this. I stop them all.
