I recently did a clean re-install of XP Pro, fully updated. I am trying to install a US Robotics USB Wireless Adapter which I have successfully done in the past many times.

However, this time, I get the message "Remote Call Procedure Failed" after I reboot (as required) and XP is fully up an running. I think that this happens when the software tried to find the available wireless networks at the end of the installation process.

I used the systray icon to turn off (exit) the Bit Defender AV when installing but that did not help.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Finally got back to the computer. Yes, it is started in Services. I started to Logger, too.

The error window that repeatedly pops up when it tries to connect and fails refers to something called BCMWLTRAY.EXE.

I have uninstalled (with Revo) and reinstaleld the software a few times with no benefit.

    Thanks for any help!!

One the potential conflicts listed is BitDefender. I tried exiting the program (from the right-click menu on the systray icon) before installing the software for the USB Wireless. Is that enough?

Yeah, most, but not all software usually requests that you exit your anti-malware/virus program before installing new software. However, I find it a little disturbing that Bitdefender has a serious conflict with your wireless software.. I might suggest scanning the program with your anti malware program, and when given a clean bill of health, temporarily disable your malware protection program and THEN install the wireless software.. Check and makesure you do not have a second wireless program running. That would cause a conflict

Hi, Pete was nice enough to get me off me arse and conclude this thread. Lost track, obviously. Thanks, Pete.

Thanks to all for the input. It became painfully evident that I needed to ditch XP, and this was yet another brick in the wall. "We don't need no obsolete software..." LOL. So, I picked up a new USB Wireless adapter (Rosewill) along with a new Win 7 computer and it all worked out great.

Best to all and Happy Father's Day (in the U.S. only??). Lar
