Basic stuff, but I have not kept up.

I noticed a number of these packs and they are old...why not delete them?

I did search here and with MS and found nothing on topic. If the service pack is to update and no longer used, why not delete? As a matter of fact I just went ahead and deleted and all seems fine.

    Why no auto delete?

Guessing that you really mean to ask about the Windows Update Folders found underneath the Windows folders...

They are placed there in-case you ever need to UNinstall one or more of them. If you are certain you don't - then delete away.

Hi Hive. Deleting the Windows Update backup folders only, does save disk space but those folders have information stored in the registry. To remove the Windows Update backup folders properly take a look here, Remove Windows Update Backup Files.

That program should completely remove the Windows Update Backup Files from your system. Simply highlight the update that you want removed and click on Remove backup folder. Do not click the Uninstall Update button though.
