It appeared a day or two ago, no idea why/how.

It's "Administrative Tools" which is also of course in the programs listed in the Start menu.

It isn't a shortcut. When I right click on it I am presented with

    Open
    Browse with PaintShop Pro7
    Run Sandboxed
    Search Everything... ***
    _____________________
    Unlocker (a utility program)
    _____________________
    Create Shortcut

How can I get rid of it?

*** Never really noticed Search Everything before. Clicking on it out of curiosity produces the notice that "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel." What's that all about?

Hi Syncopator. What happens if you open administrative tools? Does it actually open? What happens if you select the icon and hit the delete key on the keyboard?

If the icon doesn't budge then I would perform a System Restore to a few days ago and see if that removes the icon.

With the Desktop icon selected, i.e. with the mouse curser over it so it's highlighted, pressing the Delete key has no effect.

If I click on Admin Tools in either the Start program list or on the desktop icon they both give me the same choice and clicking on any of those choices in either of them opens the chosen option. The two Admin Tools are almost like twins/clones.

However, clicking on the desktop Icon opens a window like that of a folder. It has two rows of buttons. I can click on Edit/Select All and then File/Delete, and all eight icons within Admin Tools get sent to the Recycle Bin, and Admin Tools selected in the Start menu reflects this too - it's empty. I did, of course, restore them.

I haven't any restore points from a day or two ago. They all got flushed out when I used Temp File Cleaner (from www.addpcs.com)
