Anyone here skilled with using 'nLite' for customized install of XP Pro SP2? I need to find out exactly which components (IE, Outlook Express, NetMeeting, MSN Explorer, WMP, etc.) I can jettison via preinstallation use of nLite, without causing the OS to become unstable.

You keep only what you require.

The biggest positives for this approach are - 1. Shorter install time 2. Short update list 3. Reduction in attack surface.

I see you have SP2. That's a big no no. Upgrade to SP3 pronto as SP2 is no longer supported by MS.

So no danger of causing the OS to become unstable by deleting any of the previously mentioned?

    Unfortunately...

as yet unable to find out for sure whether or not any additional DRM, COPP, etc., has been added to SP3. I know about the junk in SP1 & SP2 (and what to delete), but SP3 info is elusive. It requires more research before I will add SP3.

No guarantees, but I wouldn't expect you to have any problems.

Hi trimis, I would suggest you follow rsinfo's recommendation. I have 5 PC's and a Laptop all running XP (Home & Pro) SP3 very happily. Cheers Neil.:D
