    I recently bought a canon 1400 IS
When i plug the camera into the computer using the USB cable windows tries to install the drivers automatically but then it returns the error Access Denied. I have seen this problem listed for windows XP with some solutions but have not found one for windows Vista.

If anyone has any ideas please help.

    System Specs:
Acer Aspire 5516 laptop running windows vista home basic SP2

    Thank you

Maybe the best place to check is the Canon website and the FAQs there. Check the manual that came with the camera of course, it might have a troubleshooting section.

Open Start (orb) -> Computer and see if the camera or the drive in the camera is listed there. If you can see "the drivers installer ", right-click on it and select 'Run as administrator'. That is what is normally required if you get those Access Denied errors.

Did the camera come with an installation disk? It might require the Canon software to be installed, but I avoid Canon software if I can or I might install it and when the camera is working, I will try uninstalling it and just use Windows to access the photos or movies.

The workaround - temporary or permanent, is to use a card reader to transfer your images to the computer - much faster :)

I see your Acer has a built in card reader for SD cards, which is what I guess the Canon uses.
