Hello, I downloaded a video driver from HP that was not digitally signed and now I cannot get into my computer. I do not have a windows Install disc so I cannot get into add/remove programs to take it out.
It reads: Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: Don't have the disc.
    file: \Boot\BCD
    status: 0xc000000f
Info: An error ocured while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
    Thanks, Bev
This is a laptop HP Vista home Ed.

Without a Vista DVD? Only one option available to you AFAIK: Hold the F8 key when booting, and select last known good configuration. If that doesn't work you're SOL without a DVD.

Maybe you consider making your DVD this time. HP laptops usually come with software to create your OS Disk.

Sorry I didn't respond right away....surgery!!! I did try all of the above. I had to take it where I bought it....had a lot wrong with the registry. (I had downloaded a program that was not digitally signed and that is when my computer would not start no matter what. )They sent it out....took two weeks but they did fix it. Sorry about the delay. Thanks for the feedback.

Do you have a backup system for your data in case it may happen again or say, that the hard disk drive becomes unreadable? It would allow you to run the HP system recovery yourself and not have to send it away to be repaired.

Hp usually has a program in Windows that will allow you to create a set of back-up CD's or DVD's. I think it used to be 12 CD's or 3 DVD's. It will only let you do this ONCE. Once you do it or possibly specifically decline to do it, the option goes away. If HP re-imaged your machine, the option should be there. If Vista was re-installed and all the appropriate drivers were also installed by a third party other that HP, the option won't be there.
It saves HP the price and time involved to create a customer back-up.
