I am french and my english is too poor, especially in that topic : how can I do to have the french version ?
I have a hard problem with Vista Home Premium, perhaps you know this problem :
"Vista configuring uptdates stage 3 of 3 0
    % done" and
I have tried a lot of things from forums since last week : F5, F8, F11...
and the solution from february 2008 :
"Boot from the Vista install media, choose your language, time, currency and keyboard settings
Select Repair your computer and your Vista installation
Select System Restore from the System Recovery Options, and select a restore point that was made before the latest Windows Update
After the restore & reboot, do not install any update(s) offered
    Install the above update
    Reboot
Install any updates listed on Windows Update, reboot
    Done! "
    I have no restore point...
I can't access to microsoft support : I can't have My PID address, as Ican't start up !
My computer is a notebook MSI GX 720.
Thank you for your help, in french if possible, but I take it all !

This appears to be one of the only suggestions
The update is not installed successfully, you receive a message, and the computer restarts when you try to install an update in Windows Vista and Windows 7
which seems to be what you have been trying.

Could you think why there are no Restore Points for System Restore? Would System Restore have been turned off? Try looking again, it is sometimes hard to see the difference in the highlighting of the dates. Look back a few pages in the calendar.

If you have lost the Restore Points, you might not have many options left. If you have a Vista installation DVD, you could try "repairing" the current Vista installation, although if you have installed a Service Pack, you will need to make a slipstreamed installation disk.

Do you have any backups of your data?

Many thanks for your reply, Mattman !
Windows updates are unfortunately automatic on my computer.
I didn't start myself my computer (last year) and I'd never heard of restore Points, or restore system.
When I go to system restore :
"your computer is running in a limited diagnostic state. If you use System Restore in his limited state, you cannot undo the restore operation. Help topics are not available in this state "
    I click "OK ", and then :
    "RESTORE SYSTEM FILES AND SETTINGS
No restore pints have been created on your computer's system disk. To create a restore point open SYSTEM PROTECTION "
So I click on SYSTEM PROTECTION, and I have again the first message :
    "Your computer is running.... "
    I can't do anything.
I have no Vista installation DVD, and (how I regret it ! ), the only backups of my datas are from last year !
    Not fine, is it ?...
    Thanks again !

So first reboot the PC to run in a 'normal' state.

Type msconfig in the Start Search box and run msconfig.exe. On the General tab, select Normal startup.

    Hi Arie,

From memory and if I understand correctly, MAD can boot into safe mode (the limited diagnostics state), but when normal mode is selected it stops at a screen "...configuring updates, stage 3 of 3, 0% complete.. ", it will not boot into normal mode. You get that warning
when you run System Restore in safe mode.

MAD, I have only seen that System Restore can fix it. If you cannot find a way to repair it and a reformat or re-image is the only option, I can offer you some suggestions about how to save the data off the hard disk drive and get a backup system started.

    Matt
PS When you get back to normal mode, don't miss that section in the link I posted

    Hie Matt,
I don't quite understand what you mean above : I have no access to microsoft downloads, as my computer doesn't start...
Perhaps I was not very clear : I can't do anything with my computer.
I use another one to talk with you and try to solve this problem.
    Thanks again.

I understand MAD, BUT, when you get Vista working normally again, you need to run those downloads. Otherwise you could be in the exact same situation when that update is installed again. I am just saying not to forget to do it when the system is working normally.

    I found this
    http://www.tipandtrick.net/2008/end...s-stage-3-of-3-during-vista-sp1-installation/
Try Method 3. You do not have an installation disk, so in Safe Mode, go to Start and in the Start Search bar, type CMD, run cmd.exe and type the entries (sections 1 - 8) at the command prompt. See if you can follow the next sections 9 - 17, but the system might work without them. If you work in Regedit, follow the instructions carefully.

Thanks again Matt and Arie !
I tried this site last week Arie, and I can't do anything.
Matt, I don't understand what I have to do with your proposal.
I'm completely lost about it by now.As the only place I can go is "prompt command ", and I think I can get my datas / documents / photos / etc.. from there, can you help me about it ?
Just to insure I don't loose them before I try another thing...
    Thanks a lot !
